When you’re a video game streamer on Twitch, you’ll want to save your old streams as VODs so that you can re-watch them and reuse them for other purposes. But this can be a tricky task to navigate, especially since there are various ways to do it and some of them have different limitations that you should know about. Twitch is one of the most popular gaming platforms on the internet, with millions of people tuning in to watch their favorite gamers play video games online. The platform has become so popular that it’s even more important for gamers to take control of their own content and make sure they have the freedom to use it how they want without having to wait on Twitch to do it for them. One of the best ways to do this is by saving Twitch broadcasts as highlights so that you can re-watch them at any time and reuse them for other purposes, including sharing with your friends or even making a compilation video for YouTube.
Luckily, there’s a simple way to do this in Twitch: by using the Video Producer feature. The feature is designed to help streamers archive their content, and it’s accessible through the Settings menu on the Creator Dashboard. To get to it, just click the Content tab and then select Video Producer from the drop-down menu.
On the Video Producer page, you’ll see a list of all of your past streams that have been automatically saved as VODs, along with any clips that have been captured. To download a specific stream, just click the three dots next to it and then select Download from the drop-down menu. It’ll take a while for the stream to process, but once it does, you’ll be able to save it in its original resolution as an MP4 file.
Keep in mind that VODs will only be saved on Twitch for 60 days if you’re a Partner, Prime, or Turbo subscriber, and 14 days for everybody else. However, you can keep your streams forever by turning them into Highlights instead, which will not only never expire but also can be edited to remove unneeded parts of the stream.
To create a highlight, just head to the Content section of the Creator Dashboard, find a past VOD, and then click on Highlights in the sidebar. This will open an editing menu where you can pick exactly which parts of the VOD you want to save as a highlight, and you can also use the Start and End options to fine-tune your selection. Then just hit Publish to make it official. That’s it! Now you’ll have a highlight to re-watch anytime, and your Twitch subscribers can do the same. You can even use your highlights as a way to promote new streams by sharing them with your followers.
